Cotswold Lavender, located near Snowshill in the north Cotswolds, has been growing Lavender for the last 20 years. There are now over 35 different varieties covering more than 70 acres. Every year at the height of summer the lavender gives a stunning display of colour offering the opportunity to make some compelling photography.

Learn Abstract Photography Techniques amidst the Sweeping lavender Fields
Great patterns and colour
Cotswold Lavender offers the photographer a wealth of opportunities in terms of graphic compositions and the chance to be creative with patterns, texture, colour and close-up detail.
This half-day workshop has been designed to help you build upon your existing photographic skills by developing your creative eye and helping you to look beyond the obvious.
Develop your creative eye
We will be looking at composition and depth of field, as well as close-up techniques, with the emphasis on capturing shape, form and texture. You will be able to find new ways of interpreting your subject matter to make truly unique images.
We will be taking advantage of the extended opening times until 8pm (subject to good weather) which providing warmer evening light and shadows raking across the blooms and hillsides.
Create abstract images
You will have the chance to experiment with ICM (intentional camera movement) and in-camera multiple exposures as well as differential focus and adjusting white balance in camera. Experimentation is key here and you will be encouraged to find your own way of capturing and interpreting the subject.
Cotswolds Lavender Photography Workshop - General Information
This workshop is aimed at those looking to become more creative with their camera, though the use of ICM (Intentional Camera Movement), long exposures and multiple exposures. It will also focus on producing close up captures, utilising graphics, patterns and colour. You should have a good understanding of your camera and be confident with it before attending the workshop. If you are in any doubt if the workshop is suitable for you please call Sarah on 07760 498 112 to discuss. You will receive both practical and technical advice, as well as individual hands on guidance. There will also be demonstrations in the field.
We will meet at 3:30pm at Cotswolds Lavender for introductions and a brief of the afternoon and evening before commencing. Please ensure you are there promptly. The workshop will finish at approximately 8pm.
You will need to make your own way to and from the venue. Once at the venue the entire time will be spent on foot.
A moderate degree of fitness is required. The majority of the walking is on flat ground.
- DSLR or mirrorless camera.
- A manual zoom lens for zoom burst and twist.
- A macro lens/close-up filter/extension tubes for close-up (however you can also use a long lens from a distance).
- Multiple exposure feature on your camera ( not essential but you’ll need this to do multiple exposures)
- You will benefit from bringing neutral density graduated filters; a polariser and a neutral density filter.
- A rain cover for your camera.

Unless stated otherwise, group workshops will only operate with a minimum of four photographers. In the event of your workshop being cancelled by Sarah Howard due to there being less than four participants your payment will be refunded in full including your deposit.
Please ensure that you insure your photographic equipment. It is also recommended that you take out personal insurance in case you need to cancel.
